Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance today arrested Kendrapara District Education Officer (DEO) Sanjib Kumar Singh for allegedly taking bribe from a government employee for cancellation of the latter's transfer.
According to Vigilance sources, the DEO was receiving Rs 20,000 from the complainant at around 9 am when the sleuths of the anti-corruption agency apprehended the official.
He was taking the amount from the complainant for cancelling his transfer order and modifying the same to another place as per choice.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from Singh and seized by the Vigilance officials.
On the suspicion of possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, simultaneous searches were launched at four locations of Singh.
A case has been registered by the Vigilance in this connection and further investigation was underway.
