Key accused among 14 held in illegal ganja trader’s attack on police in Odisha’s Bargarh

Padmapur: A team of cops was previously attacked during a raid carried out to nab an illegal Ganja (cannabis) trader at Nityanandapur village under Jharbandh police limits and Padmapur subdivision in Bargarh district. The prime accused and 13 others have been arrested in this connection, IG of Police (Northern Range) Himansu Kumar Lal informed in a presser today.

‘No one involved in the incident will be spared and other accused will be arrested soon,” the IG said.

According to a source, the police team was patrolling on Dabha-Basana road a few days ago. Two ganja traders namely Jadunath Sribatsa and Dileswar Gahira from Kesharpur village under Basana police limits were caught by the team when they were on their way back home on a motorcycle after purchasing the contraband item from the key accused identified as Nanu Sahu. Police intercepted them and later seized around three kilograms of Ganja from their possession following a thorough search.

However, Nanu coming behind them had managed to give the slip to the police and fled from the spot. Jharbandh police team attempted to nab him early on the next morning and conducted the raid.

Nanu’s family then attacked and injured policemen including Jharbandh IIC Suchismita Mohanty and several others. They helped the prime accused flee again and locked the police personnel in a room of their house. They even attacked the cops and ransacked a police vehicle.

Police have seized six motorcycles, a car, and a tractor. The arrested were forwarded to court.
