Kharif paddy procurement from Nov 5 in Odisha

Sambalpur: Procurement of paddy for Kharif season will begin from November 5, informed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Surya Narayan Patro here yesterday.

At a meeting at the RDC office here, Patra said the paddy procurement will begin from Bargarh and Kalahandi districts in first phase.

“The State Government targets to procure 55 lakh MT paddy during the current Kharif season out of which 40 per cent will be collected from western Odisha alone,” said Patro.

He further said there will be no delay in disbursement of payments. Money would be directly transferred to the bank accounts farmers within 24 to 72 hours of the procurement.
Paddy will be procured from farmers, who are registered on the online portal of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department.

The procurement will be made as per the Minimum Support Price (MSP) announced by the Centre. While common variety paddy will be procured at Rs 1,750 per quintal, Grade-A variety would be procured at Rs 1,770 per quintal.
