Koraput boat tragedy: Odisha CM announces Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to victims’ kin

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of the kin of five persons who died after a boat capsized in Patali river in Odisha’s Koraput district yesterday.

Patnaik also expressed grief over the incident, said statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today.

Three women and two minor girls died after a country boat capsized in Patali river yesterday afternoon. All the five deceased persons were the residents of Tansing village under Nandapur block in Koraput, sources said.

Three women–Lalmani Sisa (23), Sasirekha Alarb (24) Nabina Alarb (25)–along with two minor girls had been to Badela village to attend a wedding ceremony. The boat capsized while they were returning home after attending the ceremony, sources added.

While the body of one person was recovered immediately, the bodies of the remaining four were fished out today morning, sources said.
