‘Kulhad’ enhances tea sipping experience in city

Bhubaneswar: As winter blankets the city, tea lovers get another reason to go out and sip on their favourite drink. Kulhad tea seems to have become tea lovers’ current favorite. D tea Junction and Cha Biscuit are the two tea outlets well known for their delectable kulhad tea.

Kulhad tea at D Tea Junction

D Tea Junction at Jagamara started around 4 years ago, but has come to fame recently. The tea served here, priced Rs. 15, is rich in milk and cream and absolutely delicious. Coffee and other such variants are also being sold here at D Tea Junction. It has various other outlets at AMRI Hospital, SUM Hospital and other places but under different names.

Cha Biscuit at Acharjya Vihar opened around five months ago and is theme-based tea outlet. This month, the space is decked up in the No Shave November theme. Kesar chai and Malai chai are some of the varieties they offer. Besides, they also serve snacks and other eatables. A perfect kulhad of tea with biscuits costs Rs. 10 at Cha Biscuit.

People in large numbers are flocking to these joints for a cup of tea. “When served in kulhad, the taste is enhanced and it gives an earthen touch to it. Since kulhad is biodegradable, I prefer it over plastic and thermocol cups,” says Arunima Gupta, a customer at the tea shop.

Owner of Cha Biscuit said the outlet was his attempt to bring something unique for the tea lovers in Bhubaneswar and make it an experience worth remembering. Likewise, D Tea Junction’s owner said, “I plan on expanding the D Tea Junction and will open a bigger outlet near Jagamara with lot more varieties as there has been a growing demand for our tea and especially Kulhad!”.

There are other unexplored smaller tea outlets in and around Patia and they too sell tea in earthen pots. Kulhad does enhance the flavour and taste of the tea and the trend is fast catching up in the city.
