Kunduli case: Former Odisha CM Gamang seeks Guv’s intervention for CBI probe

Bhubaneswar:  Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJP leader Giridhar Gamang urged Governor S.C. Jamir to direct the State government for CBI probe into the sensational Kunduli case.

“I request to the Hon’ble  Governor may direct the Government of Odisha to hand over the Kunduli incident to the CBI under Article 244(1) PART A Para-2 of Fifth Scheduled Area,” the former CM wrote in his letter to Jamir.

He also mentioned in the letter that the Governor should ask the Odisha government to submit the detail reports on Kunduli incident from day one to till date.

Alleging the State government has failed to provide justice to the victim’s family members, Gamang said the Odisha government must take stringent action against the accused to check the discontent in the minds of the people and growing unrest in Koraput district.

The people of the State and the family members of the deceased are not satisfied by the action taken by different agencies of the government to find out the truth. Maintaining the law and order is the responsibility of the State government. There is demand for handing over the case to CBI, which s an independent investigating agency under the Government of India, the ex-CM added.

Notably, a minor tribal girl of Sorisapadar village, who was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year when she was returning from Kunduli market near the village in Koraput, committed suicide at her house on January 22. The incident had triggered massive public outrage across the state.
