Bhubaneswar: In a significant development in the Kunduli suicide incident in Odisha, the brother of the victim girl today filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking a CBI probe into the case.

"I have no faith on the investigation by the state police. The probe should be handed over to the CBI for an impartial investigation," the victim's brother said.

He had earlier filed a case at the Koraput Sessions Court alleging that negligence on the part of several government officials in the matter led to the suicide.

The case was filed by him against S. Shyni, DIG, South Western Range, Koraput, Kanwar Vishal Singh, Koraput SP, Niranjan Behera, Koraput DSP, Mamata Panigrahi, Inspector, District Police Headquarters, Dev Kumar Gomango, IIC, Pottangi police station, Koraput District Welfare Officer, Welfare Extension Officer, Pottangi Block, treating doctors of Koraput district headquarters hospital, treating doctors of Pottangi community health centre, Assistant Director & Assistant Chemical Examiner, Biological Division, State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) and Assistant Director & Assistant Chemical Examiner, Serology Division, SFSL.

It may be recalled here that a minor tribal girl of Sorisapadar village, who was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year when she was returning from Kunduli market near the village in Koraput district, committed suicide at her house on January 22.

The incident had triggered massive public outrage across the state.
