Bhubaneswar, Apr 12:

Odisha unit of BJP appeared divided over progress of CBI investigation into the chit fund scam as its former President KV Singh Deo today towed the line of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and senior leader Bijoy Mohapatra to accuse the premier agency of neglecting the investigation.

Two days after Bijoy Mohapatra accused the agency of protecting the chit fund scam accused, KV today came out in defence of the leader and said that he must be having some document to back his claim.

“Bijoy Mohapatra is a senior and experienced leader. If he is alleging something, there must be some substance to it. He could be having some data to back his statement,” said Singh Deo.

“It is public knowledge that CBI investigation into the Odisha chit fund scam has not been up to expectation. Had they kept up the initial pace and conducted a thorough investigation, things would have been very different today,” he added.

It may be noted that BJP state unit President Basant Panda yesterday issued a statement after Mohapatra’s remarks and distanced the party from the latter’s statement.

“The CBI is an autonomous body and the chit fund probe is being carried out as directed by the Supreme Court of India. There is no question of the agency neglecting it. What Mohapatra said was his personal opinion. I would urge everyone to let the agency conduct its investigation the way it thinks fit. The end result, I am sure, would do justice to the investors,” Panda had said.
