Bhubaneswar: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, is all set to hold its 5th convocation ceremony on July 14 (Monday).

President Droupadi Murmu will grace the convocation as the Chief Guest and bless the graduating students with her esteemed presence, said AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas at a press briefing today.

Dr. Biswas, expressed his joy and pride in hosting this grand ceremony. He emphasized the significance of this milestone in the lives of young healthcare professionals who are ready to contribute to the nation’s health system with compassion, skill, and dedication.

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, state Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi are scheduled to attend the event.

This year, a total of 643 healthcare professionals will be conferred degrees including 196 MBBS (Batch 2016 & 2017), 158 MD/MS (Batch 2019 & 2020), 49 DM/MCh (Batch 2019 & 2020), 21 Post-Doctoral Fellows (PDF) (Batch 2022 & 2023), 116 BSc Nursing (Batch 2017 & 2018), 62 BSc Paramedical (Batch 2018 & 2019), 41 MSc Nursing (Batch 2019 & 2020).

In recognition of exceptional academic performance, 59 gold medals will be awarded to 31 meritorious students, including 17 MBBS students, one MD/MS student, one DM/MCh student, three BSc Nursing students, seven BSc Paramedical students and two MSc Nursing students.

Among others, Dr. P R Mohapatra (DEAN), Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar (DDA), Dr. Sudiptra Ranjan Singh (Registrar), Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida (Medical Superintendent), and Dr. Vikash Bhatia were present at the presser.

Founded in 2003 by Late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, AIIMS Bhubaneswar stands tall today as a beacon of medical education, research, and healthcare delivery. Over the years, the Institute has become a symbol of trust not only in Odisha but also in the neighbouring states, fulfilling its mission of bridging regional disparities in tertiary health care.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s commitment to excellence is evident in its recent recognitions. The national institute has been ranked 12th among top medical colleges and second among emerging medical colleges in the India Today-MDRA Survey 2025. The institute has become the second choice of NEET-qualified candidates nationwide, after AIIMS New Delhi.

Besides, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar secured 15th rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, up from 31st in 2021.
