Puri: The Odisha Vigilance Department today arrested Pravat Kumar Pradhan, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Chandanpur Police Station in Puri district, on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe.
ASI Pradhan was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 at the police station. The action followed a complaint filed by a local resident, who alleged the officer had demanded money in exchange for favours in a land dispute case involving the complainant and his brother.
Notably, ASI Pradhan is the investigating officer in the said land dispute case registered at the Chandanpur Police Station.
Acting on the complaint, Vigilance officials laid a trap and apprehended the ASI while he was accepting the bribe. The entire bribe amount has been recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the arrest, the Vigilance team launched simultaneous searches at two of Pradhan’s premises.
A case has been registered under Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS Case No. 12/2025, U/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is underway.
