Bhubaneswar: The 15-year-old girl who suffered critical burn injuries after being allegedly set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Balanga area of Odisha’s Puri district will be airlifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced treatment.
Authorities at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where the girl is currently undergoing treatment, informed the girl's father about the decision to shift her to AIIMS in the national capital.
Prof. Ashutosh Biswas, Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, confirmed the decision to airlift the victim.
"Preparations are underway for the airlifting, which is expected to be done around 12 noon. The condition of the patient is stable, for which it has been decided to shift her to AIIMS Delhi for better treatment as it is one of the best healthcare institutions in India. The blood pressure of the girl, which was low yesterday, has improved," he said.
The shocking incident occurred on July 19 in the Balanga area, where the minor girl had reportedly gone to meet a friend. She was allegedly attacked by three unidentified youths, who poured an inflammable substance on her and set her ablaze before fleeing the spot.
Locals rushed to the girl's rescue and initially admitted her to the Community health Centre in Pipili. She was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar due to the severity of her injuries.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar had formed an expert committee to monitor and manage her treatment. However, given the critical nature of her condition, a decision has been taken to move her to AIIMS Delhi.
An investigation by police is underway to identify and nab the attackers.
