New Delhi: The 16-year-old girl from Balanga, Odisha, who suffered severe burn injuries after allegedly being set on fire by miscreants, continues to remain in critical condition, according to the latest medical bulletin issued by AIIMS, New Delhi.

The girl, who sustained 75% burns, is currently on oxygen support and is undergoing treatment at the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery. She was airlifted from AIIMS Bhubaneswar to AIIMS New Delhi on July 19, 2025.

Today, she underwent a surgical procedure to manage her deep burn injuries. A dedicated team of specialists is closely monitoring her health conditon, the hospital bulletin stated.

The horrific incident occurred on July 19 in the Balanga area of Odisha’s Puri district. As per reports, three unidentified youths on a motorcycle allegedly intercepted the girl, tied a handkerchief around her face, doused her with an inflammable liquid, and set her on fire. The attack took place around 5 to 7 kilometres from the Balanga police station.

The Odisha government has announced that it will cover all expenses related to her treatment.
