Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in the Odisha capital here today registered a case against a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) corporator on charges of sexual exploitation of a 19-year-old girl on false assurance of marriage.

The Laxmisagar police booked BJD corporator Amaresh Jena under Sections 64(2)(m), 89, 296 and 351(2) of BNS and Section 6 of POCSO Act on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim.

As per the complaint, the BJD corporator had came in contact with the girl during a social event in June, 2023.

He reportedly gifted a mobile phone to the girl, who was then a minor. Later, the BJD corporator developed a relationship with the victim.

Jena, a married man, allegedly maintained physical relationship with the girl on the assurance of marriage. He reportedly assured the girl that he would marry her after divorcing his wife.

However, the BJD corporator allegedly forced the girl for an abortion after she got impregnated in February, 2024. According to the victim, Jena took her to Puri in his vehicle in April this year and hurled abuses at her.

He even attacked the girl and asked her to leave the capital city without informing anything about their relationship to anyone. Jena allegedly threatened the girl of dire consequences if she reveals anything in this regard to anyone.

In her complaint, the victim has urged police to give justice to her. She also threatened self-immolation if the cops fail to take appropriate action in this connection.

The police have recorded the statement of the victim under Section 183 of the BNSS and sent her for medical examination after registering a case in this regard.
