Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the self-immolation attempt by a female student of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, the Regional Directorate of Education instructed all colleges across Odisha to implement stringent measures to prevent sensitive incidents on campus.

In a directive issued to college principals, the Directorate emphasised the immediate formation of Internal Complaints Committees, as mandated by the University Grants Commission (UGC), without any delay.

The letter further instructed institutions to ensure round-the-clock surveillance through in-house squad teams and CCTV monitoring systems. Education authorities were also told to proactively take necessary steps to avert any potential untoward situations.

Principals have been asked to promptly report any signs of negligence or lapses to the Directorate. Additionally, all colleges must remain vigilant and ensure their internal mechanisms are fully functional and responsive in handling emergencies or distress situations.

Meanwhile, the condition of Soumyashree, the FM College student who attempted self-immolation, remains critical. She has sustained 90% burn injuries and underwent dialysis yesterday due to kidney failure. She is currently receiving treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
