Baripada: In a shocking incident, a drunkard man allegedly killed his elderly parents with a hammer at Dhanapal village under Baisinga police limits in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district today. The accused has been identified as Himanshu Sahu, an auto-rickshaw driver.

According to reports, the accused lived with his 85-year-old father Hadibandhu Sahu and 78-year-old mother Shantilata Sahu. Due to family issues, his wife and children had been living separately for quite some time.

This morning, villagers spotted the bloodied body of the elderly woman lying in front of the house. Meanwhile, the accused was seen sitting calmly on a cot nearby, raising suspicion among the locals. They immediately informed the police.

A police team rushed to the spot and took Himanshu into custody. Preliminary investigations suggest he killed his parents by repeatedly hitting them with a hammer in a fit of rage while being in an inebriated state.

The gruesome double murder has sent shockwaves across the area. Police have recovered the bodies for post-mortem.
