Bhubaneswar: Thousands of Bol Bam devotees thronged Lord Shiva temples across Odisha today, marking the auspicious first Monday of the holy month of Shraavana.

Dressed in saffron attire, the Kanwariyas began their spiritual journey collecting water from rivers in small pots and marching in groups to offer it to the deity.

Long queues of devotees were seen at major Shiva shrines, including the Lingaraja Temple in Bhubaneswar, Dhabaleswar Temple in Cuttack, Lokanath Temple in Puri and Akhandalamani Temple in Bhadrak. To manage the crowds and ensure smooth darshan, elaborate security arrangements were put in place.

The Twin City Commissionerate Police deployed police personnel in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to maintain order and assist devotees. In anticipation of large congregations along riverbanks, police and Fire Services department stationed powerboats, lifejackets, rope lines and portable lighting systems at vulnerable spots.

Authorities also issued safety advisories urging devotees not to enter deep waters while collecting water for the rituals.
