Balasore: Despite rising water levels in several rivers, the overall flood situation in Balasore district remains under control, according to the Water Resources Department of the Odisha Government.
Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department, visited the State Hydrological Data Centre early Monday morning to assess the flood preparedness. The centre, which operates round-the-clock, monitors river water levels and rainfall data across the state.
Garg instructed the Engineer-in-Chief and field staff to closely monitor the water levels in the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers and ensure swift action wherever required.
In Jaleswar, no village has been cut off due to the water, though precautionary measures led to the evacuation of 150 people from vulnerable areas, as per the department.
In the Baliapal block, two villages have been surrounded by floodwaters. Similarly, two gram panchayats in Bhograi are also waterlogged. However, officials confirmed that no houses have been submerged so far.
“No major situation has been reported from any block in Balasore district at present,” the department said.
