Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor and Chancellor of state universities, Hari Babu Kambhampati, has sought a report in connection with the alleged self-immolation attempt by a girl student of FM Autonomous College in Balasore on July 12.
The Governor talked to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj today and sought details about the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
He also asked the Higher Education Department to inform him about the steps taken by the authorities to address the situation.
During the discussion, the Higher Education Minister informed the Governor that the state government has taken the matter seriously and all necessary measures have been initiated to ensure accountability in the case.
The Governor also spoke to the authorities of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar and enquired about the victim’s health. Besides, he wished for the speedy recovery of the girl.
Soumyashree Bisi, an Integrated B.Ed student of FM College, allegedly attempted self-immolation in front of the principal’s chamber on July 12 due to continuous harassment by a teacher. The victim sustained 90 per cent burn injuries in the incident. She is now battling for life at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
