Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the main Opposition party in Odisha, would continue its agitation seeking justice for the FM College girl, who died after self-immolation recently.

The regional party has announced that it would gherao the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) offices at Cuttack, Sambalpur and Berhampur on July 21 as part of its ongoing agitation seeking justice for the deceased college girl.

“The BJD will continue its agitation until justice is delivered in the case. The party will intensify its stir in the coming days,” said Debi Prasad Mishra, a senior vice president of the party, in a press conference here today.

Earlier in the day, the Naveen Patnaik-led party staged a silent protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Janata Maidan in the capital city here and demanded justice for the victim.

The Opposition party had gheraoed the Lok Seva Bhawan in the capital city here on July 15 seeking a judicial enquiry into the self-immolation incident and resignation of Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

A B.Ed student of FM Autonomous College in Balasore allegedly attempted self-immolation on July 12 after she was subjected to continuous sexual harassment by the head of the Education department of the institute.

Prior to her suicide attempt, the girl had lodged a complaint with the college authorities as well as police. But, no one allegedly listened to her grievances.

The girl sustained over 90 per cent burn injuries in the incident and died while being treated at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on July 14. The tragic incident has triggered a massive public outrage in the state.
