Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu, who arrived in Odisha on a two-day visit today, is likely to visit the Burn Centre at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar to enquire about the health condition of FM College girl Soumyashree Bisi.
Soumyashree, who attempted self-immolation over alleged harassment by a faculty member of the college, is now battling for life at the Burn Centre of the premier health institute in the city here.
The authorities, meanwhile, tightened security in and around the Burn Centre. A dog squad was pressed into service as part of the security check at the hospital.
The President is scheduled to grace the 5th convocation of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in the evening.
Bisi, an Integrated B.Ed student, allegedly attempted self-immolation in front of the principal’s chamber on July 12 due to continuous harassment by a teacher. The victim sustained 90 per cent burn injuries in the incident.
It is worth mentioning here that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress party had earlier sought appointment with the President to raise the issue of women safety in Odisha in the wake of the FM College incident.
The two Opposition parties had sent formal requests in this regard to the President’s office yesterday.
