Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati condoled the death of FM (Autonomous) College student who succumbed to burn injuries last night at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after attempting self-immolation over alleged sexual harassment by a senior faculty member. Soumyashree Bisi's mortal remains were consigned to flames at her native village in Balasore earlier today morning. 

"Shattered to learn of the untimely loss of a young student from Fakir Mohan Autonomous College. Her passing is not just a tragedy—it is a stark reminder of the urgent need to safeguard our campuses. The law will take its toughest course. Those responsible will face uncompromising punishment. My heart goes out to the grieving family. May they find strength in this hour of unbearable pain. Sadgati Praptirastu," read the Governor’s post on social media platform X.

Dr Kambhampati had earlier sought a detailed report on the attempted self-immolation of the second-year Integrated B.Ed. student. Speaking to Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, the Governor had sought detailed information regarding the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and inquired about the steps being taken to address the situation. He had also contacted the Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar to obtain a medical update of the victim and later urged the government to ensure student welfare on priority.
