Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police today revealed that it has collected digital evidence in connection with the gangrape incident at Gopalpur.
“We have collected some vital digital evidence in connection with the gangrape incident at Gopalpur. The crime was also caught on the CCTVs, installed in the locality,” said Crime Branch Director General Vinaytosh Mishra.
The police have also seized the mobile phones of the accused persons and sent them to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for required examination. If necessary, the cops will also take the accused persons on remand, he added.
According to the Crime Branch DG, the investigating officers have managed to collect the CCTV footage of from the locality both before and after the crime.
“We have collected adequate evidence against the accused. The accused were very much at the crime spot for at least one and a half hours,” he said.
The police have also collected samples from the accused for DNA analysis. The SFSL has been asked to submit the DNA analysis report at the earliest.
“The probe by the Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW&CW) of the Crime Branch is moving on the right track. The investigating officers have also collected some circumstantial evidence. We can bring the accused persons on remand within 45 days of their arrest,” stated Mishra.
It is worth mentioning here that a college girl was gangraped by miscreants in front of her male friend on Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district on June 15.
The incident took place when the college girl along with her male friend visited the beach during the Raja festival. The police have arrested at least 10 persons, including a few minors, in connection with the case.
