Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha are likely to receive heavy rainfall till July 27 as a low pressure area has formed over the north Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

It is likely to become well-marked during the next 24 hours and move towards North Odisha and adjoining West Bengal coasts during the next 48 hours, the agency said.

"The remnant of Tropical Cyclone 'WIPHA' has emerged, and under its influence, a low pressure area has formed over the north Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs of today, the 24th July 2025. It is likely to become well-marked during the next 24 hours. It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards North Odisha & adjoining West Bengal coasts during the next 48 hours," the IMD said in a bulletin.

For today, the IMD has issued a rainfall warning for several districts of the state.

ORANGE WARNING: Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, and Koraput.

YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and Angul. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
