Bhubaneswar: A first-year postgraduate (PG) student of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna, hailing from Odisha, was found dead in his hostel room under mysterious circumstances yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Jadavendra Sahu (25), son of Upendra Sahu, of Baidyakateni village under Gondia block in Dhenkanal district.
Sahu had taken admission in AIIMS-Patna in January this year. He was doing postgraduation or MD in Gynaecology and Obstetrics (O&G) and staying in room no. 515 of the hostel no. 10 at the premier institute.
The 25-year-old was found dead in his hostel room yesterday. According to the authorities, Sahu did not open the door of his hostel room yesterday morning. His room was found locked from inside and he even did not answer to telephone call.
Suspecting something unpleasant, the authorities of AIIMS-Patna informed the incident to local police.
Sahu was found lying unconscious on the bed after police broke open the door of his hostel room. He was immediately rushed to the emergency ward, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The authorities claimed that Sahu ended his life by injecting himself with a high dose of anesthesia drug Friday night.
On being informed, Sahu’s mother and younger brother rushed to AIIMS-Patna. His family members, meanwhile, alleged that he was murdered at the hostel.
The exact cause of Sahu’s death will be ascertained on the basis of the postmortem report, police said.
