Bhubaneswar: The process for the election of a new president for the Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will commence on June 29.

The ruling party in Odisha will elect a new president by July 1, said Balasore MP and BJP returning officer for Odisha Pratap Chandra Sarangi today.

The process for the election of members for the BJP Rashtriya Prarishad (National Executive) in Odisha will also begin on June 29 and conclude by July 1, added Sarangi.

K. Laxman, the central returning officer for BJP organizational polls, has appointed MP Sanjay Jaiswal as the observer for the election of BJP Odisha unit president.

The BJP conducts its organizational polls once in every three years. The party had started the process for the election of the block and district units of the party in Odisha in December last year.

The ruling party has elected new presidents for its district and block units in the state.

It is worth mentioning here that former minister Manmohan Samal had been appointed as the president of BJP Odisha unit in March, 2023.

The party formed its maiden government in Odisha by defeating the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in 2024 Assembly polls.

However, Samal lost the Assembly polls from Chandabali seat in Bhadrak district. Notably, Samal had also served as the president of BJP in Odisha from 1999 to 2004.
