Bhubaneswar: In a significant step to bolster policing and emergency response infrastructure, the Odisha State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, today discussed on creation of 4,195 posts across various ranks in the Home Department.
In a move aimed at enhancing public safety, the Cabinet also cleared the construction of dedicated buildings for the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) and Mirror Emergency Response Centre (MERC). These centres are expected to improve resilience and ensure 24/7 emergency response services, according to an official statement.
To further strengthen the emergency infrastructure, the Cabinet approved the deployment of 645 emergency response vehicles to ensure faster and more efficient on-ground action during crises.
The Cabinet also approved the continuation of the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) Dial 112 scheme for the period 2025–26 to 2029–30, with a total proposed outlay of ₹2,260.89 crore. The ERSS platform integrates police, fire, and ambulance services for swift and coordinated responses to distress calls.
In another major decision, the Cabinet sanctioned the bifurcation of the existing Mayurbhanj Police District, paving the way for the formation of a new police district with headquarters at Rairangpur. The move is expected to enhance law enforcement efficiency and improve public service delivery in the region.
Overall, 13 proposals from 11 departments were approved during the Cabinet meeting.
