Bhubaneswar: In line with the state’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi dismissed Revenue Inspector Babilata Behera from government service following her conviction in a bribery case.
Behera, currently posted at the Mayurbhanj District Supply Office in Baripada, was earlier accused of demanding and accepting a bribe while serving as Revenue Inspector at Kaniha block in Angul district. The Vigilance Department had registered a bribery case against her, and she was recently convicted by the Angul Vigilance Special Judge.
Upon learning of the conviction, the Chief Minister directed her immediate dismissal from service.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also dismissed Dr. Karunakar Rout, a former Medical Officer of Madhuban Community health Centre in Jajpur district, who is currently serving at the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital. Rout was convicted by the Special Vigilance Court in a separate bribery case and sentenced to two years of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.
