Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today stated the diarrhoea outbreak across several districts of Odisha is under control, with a decline in the number of fresh cases. The statement came during a high-level review meeting on the current public health situation.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure coordinated efforts for delivering quality healthcare, particularly in hospitals and medical colleges, to maintain the improving trend.
During the meeting, it was revealed the number of affected individuals has significantly declined in districts such as Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar, and normalcy is gradually being restored.
Majhi instructed officials to continue taking precautionary measures in areas where the risk of the disease spreading still exists. He also advised authorities to remain alert and prepared until Dussehra.
Special attention was given to the well-being of school students. The Chief Minister asked officials to ensure educational institutions strictly follow the preventive guidelines issued by the government.
Highlighting the importance of food safety, he stressed food samples from fast food vendors and eateries must be tested, and proper sanitation must be enforced. In rural areas, he directed borewells be sanitised and water samples regularly tested to prevent contamination.
As of today, a total of 3,892 patients have been admitted to hospitals. Among them, 3,543 have recovered, while 254 remain under treatment.
The meeting also noted the role of the Mission Shakti department, whose SHG members are actively raising awareness on diarrhoea prevention. Additionally, ASHA and Anganwadi workers are spreading information through IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials.
Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Health Secretary Aswathi S, and senior officials from the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water, Housing and Urban Development, Women and Child Development, and School and Mass Education departments were present at the meeting.
