Bhubaneswar: The principal and a faculty member of a college in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district have been suspended in connection with the mistreatment of a girl student in January this year.
Jagatsinghpur district Collector J Sonal suspended the principal of Swami Arupananda College of Education, Ramesh Chandra Sahu and Mathletics lecturer Saswat Mohanty in connection with the incident today.
As per reports, the victim, a Plus-II student, had lodged a complaint with the principal on January 15 this year alleging mistreatment by the Mathematics lecturer.
The lecturer was found guilty by an internal probe committee of the college. However, the college authorities had tried to suppress the incident.
However, a complaint in this regard was lodged with district Collector through the Jana Sunani portal.
Taking the issue seriously, the Jagatsinghpur Collector had sought a report from the college principal.
The Collector suspended the principal and the lecturer after the college authorities failed to submit a satisfactory report on the mistreatment allegation.
