Odisha couple ends life by jumping before Vande Bharat Express; financial distress suspected

Bhubaneswar: A couple allegedly died by suicide by jumping before a moving train in Odisha’s Nuapada district last night.

The deceased have been identified as Jaduram Pandey (58) and his wife Jambai Pandey (56) of Silda village under Nuapada police limits.

Jaduram and Jambai reportedly jumped before the Visakhapatnam-Durg Vande Bharat Express near Kalyanpur level crossing in Nuapda while returning home from a relative’s house last night.

On being informed, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel from Kantabanji seized the bodies and sent them for postmortem after registering a case in this regard.

According to the villagers, the couple had some disputes with their only son and they were staying separately for last two years.

The couple did not have any permanent source of income and they were under financial distress for last several days, revealed the villagers.

The financial distress might have prompted Jaduram and his wife Jambai to take the extreme step, they said.
