Bhubaneswar: A devotee died after coming under the wheels of a chariot during the Ratha Jatra in Odisha’s Ganjam district today.

The incident took place at Shikula village under Purusottampur police limits in Ganjam.

The deceased has been identified as Shivaram Behera (30) of the locality.

There was heavy rush when the chariot was being pulled by the devotees at Shikula. Shivram lost balance and fell under the wheels of the chariot.

He sustained grievous injuries in the mishap. Locals rescued Shivram and rushed him to a nearby hospital.

Shivram was later referred to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur city after his condition deteriorated. However, he succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Berhampur, reports said.

On being informed, the police seized the body and launched a probe into the incident.
