Boudh: A tragic turn of events unfolded after a man and his wife died in a road mishap while going to attend the last rites of his father in Boudh district of Odisha on Wednesday. The accident took place near Nuapada village on NH 57 connecting Khurda-Balangir late in the night.
The deceased, identified as Raj Kishore Sahu and his wife Minati Sahu, succumbed to injuries after their vehicle hit a stationary truck near Rambhikata tollgate within Boudh police limits.
The couple was heading from Kalahandi district to Gania in Nayagarh when the collision took place.
As per reports, Raj, on getting news of his father's demise, was going with wife Minati to his native place Gania to perform the last rites. They were halfway through their journey when their four-wheeler rammed into a stationary truck near the tollgate on NH-57. The collision was so severe that both died on the spot.
Police on getting information arrived at the spot and recovered the bodies for postmortem. Sub Collector, BDO, Tehsildar and Additional Tehsildar, on emergency duty, also immediately rushed to the site and hospital where the bodies were taken. The exact cause of the accident and deaths is being probed and further details will be shared after autopsy, official sources said.
