Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Berhampur today sentenced a former Junior Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) at Girisola Check Gate in Odisha’s Ganjam district to two years of rigorous imprisonment for possessing disproportionate assets (DA).
The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 50,000 on convict Devi Prasad Padhy, a former Junior MVI at Girisola Check Gate in Ganjam.
The Vigilance Department had filed a charge sheet against Padhy in the DA case, registered under Sections 13(2) and 13(1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Padhy was earlier convicted by a Special Vigilance Court in Phulbani for demanding and taking bribe from a bus owner for renewal of the permit of the vehicle.
Following his conviction in the bribery case, Padhy was dismissed from service by the competent authority. Padhy was serving as the Regional Transport Officer (In-Charge), Boudh at the time of his dismissal from service.
