The Odisha Government will bring fresh guidelines to put a ban on vulgar dance in Jatra (opera) shows. Distortion of Odia culture through vulgarity by some Jatra troupes will be ended, Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj said on Sunday. While speaking to mediapersons, the Culture Minister stated, “People usually watch Jatra along with their families. Since last few days, a trend has started to distort our culture. There is a need to strictly implement the prescribed norms. The Law Minister has already given his views in this regard and I wholeheartedly subscribe to his thoughts. The Culture Department will extend whatever support is needed by the Law Department.” “Jatra troupe owners and committees are not to be blamed alone. The audiences are also equally responsible for the spread of vulgarity. Attempts must be made by all to bring transparency in our mentality to eradicate this,” he further said.
