Jajpur: In yet another shocking instance of continued sexual violence crimes across the State, a tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men in a jungle while she was herding goats in Odisha's Jajpur district on Tuesday.
The crime reportedly took place near Bhalukhai forest which comes under Bairi police limits in the district and came to the fore after the 32 year-old survivor reached out to the police and filed a complaint.
As per the complaint, the woman had gone to graze goats near Bhalukhai forest when two men approached her. They then allegedly waylaid and gang-raped her.
Based on her complaint, police arrested the two men named in the complaint after carrying out an immediate investigation.
The accused, identified as Bhajaman Bhoi and Sunanda Pihu, were nabbed shortly after the incident. They were found to be local residents, though motive behind the crime is yet to be established.
Police sources said the survivor was sent for medical examination as per the protocol. The accused were apprehended after cops acted swiftly and carried out a raid. Probe is still underway to establish the turn of events leading to the crime, they said.
The recent spate of rape and sexual assault incidents on women in the State has shed light on a disturbing pattern of a broken law and order system. While the sudden surge of such cases has triggered fear and justifiable outrage among the public, it has tarnished the claims of the government to ensure safety and security of women.
