Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested two more individuals in connection with the assault on Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo, taking the total number of arrests to five.

According to police sources, the two accused have been identified as Sanjeev Mishra, a resident of Jharpada and Sachikanta Swain.

On Monday, three individuals — Jeevan Rout, Rashmi Mahapatra, and Debasis Pradhan — were arrested in connection with the incident. They have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 333, 132, 121(1), 121(2), 109, 351(2), 62, 140(2), 304, 54, 61(2), 189(2), 190, and 3(5).

The assault occurred during a grievance redressal meeting at the BMC office, where Sahoo was allegedly attacked by a group of youths. The arrests were made based on a complaint filed by Sahoo at the Kharvelnagar Police Station.

Earlier in the day, Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal suspended five party members over their alleged involvement in the incident. The suspended individuals include Corporator Aparup Narayan Rout alias Jeevan Rout, Rashi Ranjan Mahapatra, Debasish Pradhan, Sachikant Swain, and Sanjeev Mishra.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
