Bhubaneswar: Showcasing India's rich traditional craft outside the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted an elegant silver filigree purse to Ghana's First Lady Lordina Mahama during his visit to the African nation.
PM Modi, who is on his five-nation tour, presented a beautiful handcrafted silver filigree purse, a renowned Tarakasi craft from Odisha's Cuttack city, to Ghana President John Mahama's wife Lordina Mahama.
Meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, the purse features delicate floral and vine motifs formed from fine silver wires, combining airy lightness with durability and elegance.
Traditionally used in jewellery, Cuttack’s filigree now adorns modern accessories like this purse, blending heritage with contemporary style.
It symbolises grace, cultural pride, and artisanal mastery, making it a timeless keepsake of Odisha’s rich craft tradition.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Accra on Wednesday on a state visit to Ghana. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome by President Mahama, including a guard of honour and a 21-gun salute at the airport. He was also conferred with 'The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana', the country's national honour.
During his visit, India and Ghana signed multiple pacts to strengthen the bilateral ties.
Recently, PM Modi had gifted a silver filigree clutch to Mary Simon, the Governor General of Canada, showcasing Cuttack's famous traditional craft called 'Tarakasi' during his visit to attend the G7 Summit in June this year.
