Jagatsinghpur: A shocking incident has come to light from the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur, exposing the sorry state of healthcare services. In the absence of electricity, a patient was administered intravenous fluid and injections under the flashlight of a mobile phone.

The incident occurred last night when the casualty ward of the hospital was plunged into darkness due to a power outage. Electricity had reportedly gone off in parts of Jagatsinghpur town.

The patient, identified as the president of the non-teaching staff association of SVM College, who had fallen ill while participating in a protest, was rushed to the emergency department. Due to the blackout, accompanying staff members used mobile phone torches to help medical workers administer injections and intravenous fluid to the patient.

Despite having a generator backup, hospital authorities failed to restore power, leading to concern among patients and attendants. Strikingly, no hospital official was seen at the spot to manage the situation.
