Puri: The chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra turn towards the south at Sharadhabali as part of 'Dakhina Moda' ritual ahead of the Bahuda Jatra (return journey) during 11-day-long Ratha Jatra in Puri, Odisha's pilgrim town.
While Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra's chariots -- Taladhwaja and Darpadalan -- took south turn on Wednesday, Lord Jagannath's chariot Nandighosha was pulled from its current position in front of the Gundicha Temple and turned southward, facing the Gundicha Temple near Nakachana Gate at Sharadhabali today.
The 'Dakhina Moda' ritual signifies the beginning of the return journey of deities from the Gundicha Temple back to the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
The devotees in large number are presently having darshan of deities from Adapa Bedi, the birthplace of Chaturdhamurti.
After conducting Hera Panchami ritual on July 1, the three chariots completed their southward turns to move back to the Jagannath Temple carrying deities from the Gundicha Temple during the annual car festival. The Bahuda Jatra is scheduled on July 5.
