Puri: The chariots of Lord Jagannath and Holy Siblings began rolling on the Grand Road towards the Gundicha Temple today, an evening after being halted midway due to 'unknown' reasons during Ratha Jatra.
Soaked in devotion, the devotees pulled the chariots of three deities amid sounds of gongs, conches and chants of 'Hari Bol'. Lord Balabhadra's chariot Taladhwaja started moving forward from Balagandi Chhak, where it was halted yesterday.
The chariots carrying Lord Jagannath and Devi Subhadra moved afterwards.
The three chariots -- Nandighosha, Darpadalan and Taladhwaja -- were halted midway last evening. While Lord Balabhadra's chariot Taladhwaja and Devi Subhadra's Darpadalan chariots covered some distance on the Grand Road, Nandighosha chariot carrying Lord Jagannath moved a few steps.
As the evening set in, the chariot pulling was halted. The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) decided to resume the activities in the morning.
The devotees were able to have divine darshan of Lords seated on respective chariots throughout the night.
Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan declared the Ratha Jatra as incident-free this year, whereas several mishaps were reported in media.
According to reports, 600 devotees were admitted to Puri DHH due to suffocation in crowd and 7 journalists including a woman sustained injuries in an attack by police in Puri.
Reports said that the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department of the state government had facilitated the visit of altogether 52 working journalists to Puri with a special pass to cover the Ratha Jatra on Friday. Upon their arrival at Puri, the journalists were denied permission by the police to reach the designated place on the Grand Road to cover the mega event.
The cops allegedly misbehaved with the journalists and even assaulted them even though they produced their passes. While senior journalist Ramesh Mohanty reportedly fell down and some others, including veteran scribe Prabhu Kalyan Mahapatra, Pradyumna Kumar Mohanty, Sanat Mishra, Haraprasad Das and woman journo Bijayeeta Tripathy, sustained injuries in the incident.
