Baripada: In view of the very heavy rainfall forecast, the Mayurbhanj district administration announced the closure of all schools on Monday.

District Collector Hema Kanta Say informed, in addition to schools, all Anganwadi centres across the district will remain closed for three days starting Monday as a precautionary measure.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar today issued a red warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore districts, predicting very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty surface winds with speeds reaching 30–40 kmph are also likely.

A low-pressure area persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal–Bangladesh coasts as of 2:30 PM today. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards across north Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand over the next two days.
