Bhubaneswar: The cold wave tightened its grip across Odisha on Wednesday, with mercury dipping sharply in several interior and northern districts. Hill ranges and forested areas witnessed the harshest conditions, while urban centres also felt the chill.

Sub-zero temperature in Similipal

The coldest condition was recorded at Similipal National Park, where the minimum temperature dropped to minus 1 degree Celsius. This marks one of the lowest temperatures in the state this winter season.

Several places below 10°C

A number of towns recorded minimum temperatures of 10 degree Celsius or below. Rourkela shivered at 6 degree Celsius, followed by Jharsuguda at 6.4 degree and Phulabani at 7 degree. Angul and Sundargarh both recorded 8.4 degree, while Keonjhar stood at 8.8 degree. Dhenkanal saw the temperature fall to 9.7 degree. Baripada and Daringbadi recorded 10 degree Celsius each.

Cold wave likely to continue till January 17

According to weather officials, cold wave conditions are likely to prevail across Odisha till January 17. A gradual rise in night temperatures is expected from January 18 due to the impact of a western disturbance, bringing some relief from the biting cold.
