Jajpur: Controversy erupted after a video surfaced on social media showing an actor of Tulasi Gananatya performing on stage with a live snake wrapped around his hand. The incident took place at the akhadasala (practice stage) of the troupe located in Bikramatiran village under Balichandrapur police limits in Odisha's Jajpur district on Tuesday.

The act has drawn strong reactions from the public and authorities, as the use of live wild animals in performances is a violation of wildlife protection laws. Taking serious note of the matter, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Cuttack directed the local Range Officer of Bairi Forest Range to conduct an inquiry and take necessary action.

Following the order, forest officials raided the akhadasala of Tulasi Gananatya. However, no one was present at the site during the raid. Officials later issued a notice to the troupe owner, instructing him to appear before the Bairi Range Officer along with the live snake.

Use of live wild animals such as snakes in public performances violates the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and can attract severe penalties.
