Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital was ranked among the top 10 cleanest cities in the country in the Swachh Survekshan survey by the Centre.
The capital city of Odisha secured 9th rank among the top 10 cleanest cities in India in the 3 lakh to 10 lakh population category. It had managed to get 34th rank in the previous Swachh Survekshan survey.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) was felicitated at the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Award Ceremony in New Delhi today.
Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das, Urban Development department secretary Usha Padhee and BMC commissioner Rajesh Pravakar Patil received the award at the ceremony.
Apart from Bhubaneswar, Aska and Chikiti NACs in Ganjam district were felicitated at the ceremony.
Aska NAC was felicitated with the Swachh Sehar award in the 20,000 to 50,000 population category while Chikiti NAC received the Swachh Sehar award in less than 20,000 population category.
The authorities of BMC, meanwhile, thanked the people of the capital city for their efforts to make their localities clean.
“A proud moment for Odisha as our commitment to urban cleanliness continues to earn national recognition,” said the state government in a statement.
