Bhubaneswar: At least four workers from Odisha lost their lives in the devastating explosion at Sigachi Industries Limited's pharmaceutical factory in Telangana’s Sangareddy district, while four others are currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Rajnala Jagan Mohan (55) from Ganjam, Lagnajeeth Duari (20) from Tigiria, Manoj Rout from Balasore, and Dolagobinda Sahu from Jajpur. All of them were working at the factory when the explosion occurred on Monday morning.
The tragic incident took place in the Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) drying unit of Sigachi Industries Limited, located in the Pashamylaram industrial area, about 50 km from Hyderabad. The powerful blast caused a massive fire, claiming over 36 lives and injuring many others.
More than 100 workers, mostly migrants from Odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, were present at the factory during the explosion. Eyewitnesses said the blast was so intense that workers were thrown several metres away.
Among the injured from Odisha, Sameer Padhi from Ganjam is currently in the ICU at Pranaam Hospital in Madinaguda with 35% burn injuries. Doctors have said he is out of danger. Two others — Chandan Kumar Naik from Bhadrak and Neelambar Bhadra from Nabarangpur — sustained minor injuries and are being treated in the general ward. Both are reported to be stable and conscious. Another victim from Odisha, Chitrasen Batra, is undergoing treatment at Druva Hospital in Patancheru.
Officials from the Odisha Government, including Pritish Panda (OSD, Directorate of Odisha Paribar) and Dr. Chandra Sekhar Hota (OPS), have reached the site to coordinate rescue operations and support affected Odia workers.
Efforts are still underway to trace 22 missing workers from the factory.
The Odisha Paribar representatives, who visited the hospital and spoke with the treating doctors, are closely monitoring the condition of the injured and assisting the families of the victims.
