Berhampur: A diarrhoea outbreak in Damapur village under Sanakhemundi block of Odisha's Ganjam district has claimed at least three lives.

The deceased have been identified as Sambaru Mallick, Kandara Mallick, and Sukri Mallick. According to reports, Sambaru and Kandara had been undergoing treatment for diarrhoea since Saturday. However, their conditions deteriorated on Tuesday, leading to their deaths.

Sukri, who was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur in critical condition, also died on the same day.

A medical team was dispatched to the area to control the situation and provide treatment. Healthcare workers have begun distributing Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets to the villagers and are advising people to drink only boiled water as a preventive measure. A team from the Adapada Community health Centre (CHC) visited the village and assessed the situation.

Preliminary findings suggest that the outbreak may be linked to the consumption of bamboo shoots and wild mushrooms. The health authorities are continuing their investigation to ascertain the exact cause.
