Rayagada: A tragic accident occurred at Rayagada Railway Station in Odisha, where a passenger train hit a railway trolley, resulting in the death of one labourer and injuries to two others.

The incident took place on Platform No. 4 when Train No. 58528 Visakhapatnam–Raipur passenger train struck a light motor trolley being used for track maintenance. The trolley was being operated by contractual labourers from the Railway engineering department.

Reports suggest that as the train approached, the labourers attempted to lift the trolley off the tracks onto the platform. However, part of the trolley reportedly got stuck, leading to a fatal collision. One labourer died on the spot, two others sustained critical injuries in the incident.

While identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed, the injured persons were Babula Shaha and Sushant Das. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety measures during railway maintenance operations.

On the other hand, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) clarified the matter following the mishap stating that 'goods train' hit the contractual labourer and contractor has initiated process to provide compensation.

"An incident of entanglement of umbrella of a push trolley with moving wagon of a goods train occurred in Rayagada in the morning today.
