Bhubaneswar: In two separate incidents of wall and boundary collapses reported from different parts of Odisha today, four people lost their lives and two others were injured.
In a mishap, two labourers died and another was critically injured when a boundary wall of a school in Bengabati, under Balipatna police limits, collapsed on them. The labourers were working on a road construction project connecting Athantara to Nuasahi when a 100-foot stretch of the school boundary suddenly gave way.
Despite repeated appeals, ambulance services failed to reach the site. The injured workers were transported to the hospital in a JCB vehicle. Two of them were declared dead upon arrival, while the third is currently undergoing treatment.
In a separate tragedy in Nuapada district, two women died after a wall of an under-construction poultry farm collapsed in Patkarpali village under Lakhana police limits. A child, identified as Ridhi Shabara, sustained critical injuries in the incident.
The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Balamati Shabara and her 61-year-old aunt, Rupe Shabara. They had gone to visit the poultry farm when the mishap occurred. Balamati was the wife of Dibakar Shabara, who was overseeing the farm’s construction.
The Lakhana Police reached the scene, rescued the injured child, and sent her to the hospital. The bodies of the two women were later recovered from the debris.
