Nuapada: A pall of gloom has enveloped Patkarpali village under Lakhana police limits following the tragic death of two women in a wall collapse this morning.

The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Balamati Shabara and her 61-year-old aunt Rupe Shabara. The two had gone to an under-construction poultry farm, where a portion of the wall collapsed due to incessant rainfall, trapping them under the debris of bricks and cement.

A child, identified as Ridhi Shabara, who had accompanied the women, sustained critical injuries in the incident. The mishap occurred around 11 AM today.

Balamati was the wife of Dibakar Shabara, who is overseeing the construction of the poultry farm.

Upon receiving information, Lakhana Police rushed to the spot, rescued the injured child, and sent her to the hospital. The bodies of the two women were later recovered from the debris.

Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for Nuapada district, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places.
