Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a youth was allegedly beaten to death by his friend over a heated altercation concerning distribution of money after a theft in Bhubaneswar on Thursday night. The gruesome murder took place in Somnath slum in Bharatpur police limits of the State Capital. 

The deceased was identified as Kailash Nayak, a resident of Buguda town in Ganjam district. Kailash used to eke out a living by painting buildings. 

As per reports, Kailash and his friend had carried out a heist in the area. Following the loot, the two friends sat and consumed alcohol together after dinner. However, they started arguing over splitting the theft money. The heated exchange suddenly took an ugly turn and Kailash's friend flew into a rage. The latter suddenly started attacking Kailash and bludgeoned him repeatedly with a stone, resulting in his death on the spot. 

In the morning, Kailash's body was found in a pool of blood. Police, on getting information, reached the spot and started investigation. 

"The deceased youth was living in a rented acccommodation in the slum with his mother and the friend who killed him.  The body was recovered and sent for postmortem. Efforts are on to identify the accused and nab him at the earliest, official sources said, further adding that Kailash had six cases pending against him for various offences.
